Different types of Canada Visa?

There are many different types of Canada visas, and you can apply for whatever suits you based on your requirement.

  • Temporary visas

You can use these if you are planning to go to Canada for further studies or for work or any sort of vacation.

  • Super visas

You get super visas for parents and grandparents who want to accompany their children abroad. These often have a validity of up to 10 years.

  • Work permits

If you get a job offer from an employer in Canada, you can use work permits to stay there legally.

How do you apply for a Canadian Visa?

  • Determination of eligibility

Depending on the visa you want to apply for, you have to fulfil certain criteria. You have to determine if you are allowed to apply for the particular visa. You will have to fill out a questionnaire which will help you determine if the visa you are applying for is applicable to you in the first place. You will be asked to answer certain questions related to your type of visa application. On submission of this questionnaire, you will receive a judgement on whether or not you can apply for a particular type of visa. However, it is advised that you do your research beforehand to determine the eligibility for a visa before actually applying for it.

  • Online Account

After receiving the results of your questionnaire (assuming they state you are eligible), you will get an email with instructions telling you how to create an online account and take the application process one step further. If you use your bank details to log in, it will prove beneficial to you, as you will have to link your bank account either way to pay the application fee needed for the visa.

  • Check the documents needed.

On the basis of the questionnaire, you will be provided with a reference code and a list of documents needed for the type of visa that you can apply for. Check to see that you have all the needed documents available with you, and if not, arrange for them so that you can have them before you have to initiate the submission of documents.

  • Payment of fees

After submission of all documents, the website will redirect you to the payment of the application fees.

  • Processing of the visa

You will get a Canada visa in two or more weeks, based on the time frame of the application, as well as if the embassy has all the documentation it needs to process the visa. In some cases, you might be called for an interview, or be asked to submit additional documentation, as well as submit bio-metrics. In such cases, you will have to make an appointment, visit the embassy, and then submit the desired information.

  • Passport and Fees

If your visa application is successful, you will be asked to submit your passport to the Embassy. You can mail it to the Embassy, and then send the processing fees by using a money order. The processing fee may range from 20-50 dollars. This majorly depends on which type of passport you choose to apply for. You must also account for the price of the return envelope of your passport when you send it as well.

If you are notified of the approval of your visa application post any interview taken, you may have to submit your passport immediately for verification, so it might be a good idea to get your passport and other necessary documentations ready beforehand.

How long does it take to get a Canada visa?

You get a Canada visa within two to four weeks of application. If you are scheduled for an interview or have to submit any kind of application for the same, it may take even longer. The more the complexities and formalities you need to fulfill regarding your application, the longer it takes to complete it. Only after completion of the application can you start processing it.

The completion of the processing may also take some more time depending on other factors –

  • Where do you live?

Depending on where you reside, the processing time can take shorter of longer. Mailing your important details takes a longer time if you live in a location far from the country you want to work in or live in. If you have to meet for a personal interview or have to submit some bio-metric details, it might take time to schedule the interview which works for both parties. If the person has to cover international waters to reach the embassy, then it might take a while longer than desired.

  • Which type of visa are you applying for?

Different types of visa applications take different processing times. If you have a larger number of people applying in one category, then processing time and verification of documents for each candidate will take longer than expected. Sometimes, different documentation is needed for different visa applications, and you have different requirements you need to fulfill for each.

  • Completion or accuracy of the application

Your application has to consist of accurate information which is submitted after careful consideration. The application should  be complete. You must not forget to send important documents like passport along with the processing fees. If for example, you abstain from sending the processing fees, you might end up receiving a rejection, or another communication from the Embassy asking for the processing fees or submission of any other documents that have been forgotten.

The application process is a little complicated, and might be a little taxing at times. However, it is advised that you take a lot of time in advance and apply for the visa before you actually want to go to Canada.
